Transcriptomic Biomarkers Analysis

Transcriptomic Biomarker Analysis – Tuberculosis (TB)

Tuberculosis (TB), caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis, is a chronic infectious disease that primarily affects the lungs but can also involve other organs. Gene expression analysis helps to better understand the immune response to infection, detect TB biomarkers, and monitor treatment efficacy.

Genes Analyzed in Tuberculosis

Our panel targets key biomarkers associated with immune response, inflammation, and TB pathogenesis, including:

  • TNF-α (Tumor Necrosis Factor alpha) – A pro-inflammatory cytokine essential for granuloma formation and immune response to TB

  • IL-1β and IL-6 – Cytokines linked to systemic inflammation, often elevated in active TB cases

  • IFN-γ (Interferon gamma) – A key cytokine produced by T and NK cells, crucial for antiviral and antituberculous immune response
    CD4+ and CD8+ T lymphocytes – T cells playing a central role in controlling M. tuberculosis infection

  • NOS2 (iNOS) – An enzyme involved in nitric oxide production, a critical antimicrobial mediator against M. tuberculosis

  • CXCL9, CXCL10 – Chemokines important for T cell recruitment and granuloma formation in TB

  • TGF-β – A cytokine involved in regulating inflammation and fibrosis within TB granulomas
MMP-9 – A metalloproteinase associated with extracellular matrix degradation, often altered in active pulmonary TB

Applications & Benefits

  • Early TB diagnosis, including extrapulmonary forms

  • Monitoring inflammatory activity and assessing response to anti-TB treatment

  • Predicting relapse risks and evaluating resistant forms (multidrug-resistant or extensively drug-resistant TB)

  • Identifying immune response biomarkers to assess disease severity and lung healing

  • Personalizing treatment based on patients' transcriptomic profiles, especially for drug-resistant TB cases

Technologies Used

We employ advanced technologies for precise and sensitive biomarker analysis in TB:

  • RT-qPCR and RNA-seq (NGS) to quantify immune and inflammatory gene expression in TB patient samples

  • Nanostring and transcriptomic arrays for multiplexed analysis, detecting multiple infection- and inflammation-related biomarkers

  • Cellular response testing to TB antigens for an in-depth evaluation of immune reactions to M. tuberculosis-specific proteins
